This paper will start with an account of a browsing session and then proceed to consider some of its historical and political implications. It concludes by tentatively relating these observations to characteristic features of hypertext. There is no attempt to develop a comprehensive, well-balanced position concerning the prospects of electronic cooperation between Hungary and Austria. The following considerations might rather be considered as a memorandum warning against the pitfalls of a certain ``rhetoric of neighbourhood'' commonly used by political and cultural representatives of the two respective countries.
